A Story from the siege

A Hero Approaches

'Do not grieve heavily that your sons have fallen like men, for to die for the sake of praise is to live forever.'

Venantius Fortunatus (530-609)

From BA 66, Sayeth the Priestesses of Kev. These might have something to do with Whitewall?....

In the Hills above Whitewall, three exhausted men and a maid of spears together swear an oath to avenge their slain companions. The vow they make is terrible, and it will endure beyond death. They will go north, but first they journey south, to seek the counsel of one who worships a foreign god....

Midst the hidden heights of the Storm mountain, in an ancient wind-stead made of lightning, six jars are broken, and new winds spiral and pern across the land in a long-forgotten gyre....

In Heortland, a young king receives answers to three questions he has not asked from a stranger who does not speak....

Each of these are sparks, borne upon a changing wind. It is the time of the Hero Wars, the time of the Thunder Rebels. We have sown the Wind. We will harvest the Storm.

Come the Hurricane!

The world must not merely hear the truths of the Goddess, it must also see them.

1.

Warriors went to Whitewall ||| Came to Kallyr's calling

Kheldon Queen called clans ||| True champions came.

2.

Warriors went to Whitewall ||| Brave Broyan the bold bade

To stand strong in Storm hold ||| Orlanth's last altar.

3.

"Come to the wind rock ||| Cloud-height most holy

Stormhold of southland ||| Highking's hallowed hearth."

4.

Black arrow calling ||| Thunder drum's summons

Beacons burn bright ||| for the call of two kings.

TEAR DOWN WHITEWALL!

A Lunar song of the Siege

In defiance of decree Broyan stands in treachery,
His misguided subjects stricken in their bloom,
He would spurn Rufelza's grace in the folly of his race,
And would bring upon his children's children doom.

CHORUS

"Tear down Whitewall!" cries the Goddess;
"Tear down Whitewall!" cry we all.
On her snowy ramparts high
We will crimson banners fly;
On that day the Storm will die, when Whitewall falls.

Who would gen'rous mercy spurn that which all creation yearns,
And with friendship offered pay us back with hate?
Though our Goddess patient be, and with bounty she is free,
With betrayal is her rightful vengeance earned.

Chorus

Girt around with cruel foes, our belov'd Rufelza rose
Watching o'er the ones who loved her far and near,
Of the millions true and brave who their lives and fortunes gave,
In defense of Lunar homelands ever dear.

Chorus

Sartar's upstarts we endured, peace and friendship they abjured,
Kallyr's sword-point ever pressed against our throat,
Till at last we cried "Enough!", and we called their craven bluff,
And our stern and solemn Goddess thus we quote:

Chorus

Never till the latest day shall the memory pass away,
Of the gallant blood that's shed to tame these lands;
But on the cause must go, amidst joy and weal and woe,
Till we crush all insurrection where it stands.

Chorus
