Supplies
If we're worrying about raiding and defending supply caravans, better see what's needed and where it comes from
Food
- There are huge underground granaries, looked after by the Asrelia cult
- Lots of birds - both for meat and for eggs. Gulls on the cliffs have been suggested.
- Mushrooms in the caves.
- Someone called Sigtrygg, a Harst initiate, keeps track of how much is here and where to get more.
Fuel
- Firewood is used in the early part of the siege, but soon the combned Lunar and Orlanthi forces deplete local supplies and deforest much of the area
- Many local clans use peat. But it has to be dried, in stacks, after cutting. At first the Lunars had no idea what these piles were - later, we get the Battle of Thorgrad's Peat. And undeady things...
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/whitewall/message/3082 - Another underground store holds charcoal. THere is a special breed of black alynx that lives there - yes, we do have black cats in our coal-cellar!
- The Blackrock clan of the Kheldon may produce Coal, in very small quantities. If so, it's saved for the weaponsmiths, as it's the best fuel for producing a really hot fire.
Water
- The whole place is tied to water, so magical supplies.
- Cisterns to catch the rain.
- The mysterious cave systems include underground rivers
Weapons
- Replacement spear shafts and javelins are a problem, as they require wood, and straight shafts at that
- Metal? - an obvious low-volume high-value import
- We appear to have "bog iron" in our peat bog, though it bears no resemblance to the real-world substance of that name.
Cloth, bedding, etc
- Sheep from the local clans
- Any plant-based fibres? Nettles, say?
- Most will have to be imported, I think.
- All those birds used for meat will produce feathers - I think we end up inventing quilts for bedding, as feathers are cheap and heavy wool blankets are not.
- We have a known family of weavers around, somewhere. Pacifists. One member of the family is good at peace-blankets.
Caravans
Lunar
- Jestamin - famous as the "victim" of Jestamin's Joke, very early in the siege. Two Orlanthi warbands spotted him at once. And then fought each other for the "honour" of raiding his caravan. He watched and laughed - and then left.
Orlanthi
Neutral
- Kelson - from LC's game, then used by Jane in a story. Culbrea, now based mainly in Karse. Specialist in luxury goods, magic, and information. He's neutral. Honest. He has no preference between the Orlanthi side and the Lunar side. But he does do special deals for old friends when he has a soft spot for them - and he's known Kallyr since they were teenagers together.
