I thought it worth adding what's been discussed so far to the Whitewall Wiki so it doesn't get lost. I've just cut and pasted from the messages hopefully with the right attributions.

<Oliver>What do people think about a wedding being held at WW late in the siege. It'd be a nice counterpoint to all the D&D (death and destruction) and could be staged as a morale booster.

<Donald>Why just one? I would expect many over the course of the siege, probably several big fancy ones between significant individuals. Some could cause a little gossip if one of the couple was very recently widowed.

<Oliver> True enough and I'm sure there would be several but I was thinking of a centrepiece wedding. Sort of a reversal of the funeral from the Illiad.

<Keith>We could have a Winter Wedding and a Summer Wedding.- ceremonials for Vingkot style bigamy.

<Jane>Even more if it was a case of "well, she's probably dead in action.." and the assumption was proved to be Untrue, either ten seconds before the final "I do" or ten minutes after.

<Donald>So the heroine is left for dead on the battlefield, recovers, fights her way through half the Lunar army, arrives at the gate of WW to be told of the wedding and rushes to the temple arriving ten minutes too late for her husband's new wedding. I like the image....and what a lovely mess to get a PC involved in even if only as a relative of one of the triangle.

Further idea - if this involves some important people there could be major repercussions with warbands leaving in a huff because a leader didn't get their way over the issue. One of the reasons for the decline in numbers of the defenders in late 1620. A typical Orlanthi reaction - "We may lose the siege but we'll still fight on to the end. What! I'm not staying if Olaf doesn't divorce that woman he married while my cousin is still alive".

<Oliver>I like it. I was thinking that the people getting married originally could be Roganvarth Penterestsson & Rana Riverlocks. But this added twist just makes the whole business more tragic/interesting.

During the Shargashi assault Rana was down inside the Tor and was dragged off to Hell along with the Shargashi when the Sea flooded their tunnel. So she's fought her way back through Hell, Alkoth and across half of Genertela to get back to Roganvarth's side only to find him getting married to someone else! (Taking a season or two do this of course).

But who is Roganvarth marrying?

<Donald>His childhood sweetheart who followed him to WW only to find him married to and infatuated by this amazon. When Rana was apparently dead she was there to console Roganvarth. I see her as a solid Ernaldan type, probably Mahome or Orane even before she gets married, but pretty enough to attract and hold her husband's attention. Since she wants children with Roganvarth he's done very well to hold her off for a season or two - not that he'll get any credit for that.

<Chris>I've always been facinated by the middle eastern notion that a man has an obligation to marry his widowed sister-in-law. So, maybe Roganvarth's brother dies in the same event or near the same time. And maybe Rana has a bunch of kids. And maybe Roganvarth comes from a clan that everyone else thinks is particularly backwards, so think him really old-fashioned to feel bound to marry the sister-in-law. That would keep Roganvarth blameless, allowing for interesting deployment of "Know Heortling Culture" and "Know Precedent" and "Know Obscure Myths" types of abilities, as well as Rhetoric, Persuade Anyone, etc. And, since it is a difference between the laws of different clans, Broyan has to decide, which means political problems . . .</Chris>

Okay this is an attempt to bring at least some of these elements together The Lovers <Oliver>
